Synchronous Motor Range From Crouzet

Date Added: 4th May 2012

Crouzet Automatismes is a French based manufacturing company with world-wide interests that manufacture motors, including a large synchronous motor range, and motor control systems for a wide range of applications including medical equipment, barrier operating systems, manufacturing, OEM motorised equipment, aerospace and defence equipment.

The synchronous motor is powered by an alternating current (AC) and it's main characteristic is that it's speed is fixed by the AC frequency, which is 50 or 60 Hz for all but the most specialised applications. The motor works by creating a rotating field within the stator windings and the permanent magnets in the rotor follow the matching poles in generated in this rotating field.

Torque is developed when the matching poles are angularly displaced and the attractive force attempts to pull the matching poles closer.  If the applied torque overcomes this attractive magnetic force, then the motor stalls and needs to be restarted.  Thus each motor is rated by the maximum inertial load that can be moved (g.cm2), stalling (or pull-out) torque, their usable power and absorbed power.

The drive speed is a multiple of the AC frequency and this depends on the number of pole pairs and stator coil windings.  Each motor is equipped with starter circuitry for simplicity of operation.  In larger synchronous motors, the permanent magnets are replaced by rotor coil windings and excited by a dc power supply delivered by slip rings.

Crouzet's synchronous motor range all have multi-pole permanent magnet rotors and are designed to give reliable service and they are virtually silent in operation which is a great benefit for applications in the medical field.  They are supplied in a number of options, direct drive, either single or reversible or geared drive.  Their range includes:

Direct drive single direction synchronous motors - features clockwise or anti-clockwise rotation options, 5 Pole pairs, 2.5 & 8 mN-m starting/running torque and 0.16 & 0.42 Watts usable power models, mechanical reverse direction protection and 600 rpm speed.

Direct drive reversible synchronous motors - features 4 models 230/240 VAC 50 or 60 Hz, between 12 & 102 mN-m starting/running torque and 2.7 & 7.2 Watts usable power and 600 rpm speed.

Single direction and reversable synchronous geared motors - These micro-motor ranges feature a total of 10 models types, each with a number of options on gearing ranging from 3.5 rph to 30 rpm.   230/240 VAC 50 or 60 Hz, between 0.5 & 5 N-m starting/running torque and 2.7 & 7.2 Watts usable power.

These micro motors are used for small control systems powering sequence controls for barriers, LV and HV switches and valves for utilities and many other manufactured equipment applications in industry and aerospace.  They are available both from stock and to order in large quantities for OEM mass production machines.
