These seals are designed for use largely with reciprocating rods and pistons, but you'll also find these two-part spring energised seals in use in applications with swiveling and rotary motion as well as in static applications.
The two components of these seals (a very strong outer seal made from plastic and a stainless steel integrated spring. The seal is energized by the spring installed in its inside groove; both the plastic seal and spring are pre-loaded to maintain an adequate seal even in applications which involve low system pressures which other seals aren't cut out to handle.
These spring energised seals are designed to provide a better seal as the pressure in the system increases; the open side of the seal is installed towards the area of higher system pressure. Wear on the sealing lips of the unit are compensated by the integrated steel spring, which ensures the maintenance of the desired contact pressure consistently over the life of the seal.
FTL offers two types of seal: IRS and CRS seals, each designed with different housing geometries and with different types of spring to provide proper sealing across a wide range of applications with different temperatures and pressures.
