PCB inspection camera now with 125 million pixels

Date Added: 4th May 2012

If your business has a need for ultra-high resolution PCB inspection or surface analysis, you needn't look any further than the CVC Ultra range of high resolution area scan cameras, now available from STEMMER IMAGING.

The CVC Ultra 45MP COL CL colour camera offers a resolution of up to 45 million pixels, while the CVC Ultra 125MP BW CL monochrome model delivers resolutions up to an astonishing 125 million pixels.

Both CVC Ultra models utilise a 5 million pixel image sensor, and provide ultra-high resolution images by using innovative pixel shift technology.  The Sony sensor is quickly shifted vertically and horizontally in successive increments measured in fractions of a pixel.  This allows the CVC Ultra cameras to deliver interpolated end images at impressive levels of resolution, making the product ideal for PCB inspection and other applications requiring detailed surface analysis.

This technology allows CVC Ultra cameras to be surprisingly compact, measuring just 55 x 55 x 84.5 mm.  Basing the manufacture around a 5 megapixel sensor also brings another clear advantage - it allows the camera to be mounted with a standard lens via a C-mount connection.  In other words, these cameras deliver image resolution up to 45 million (colour) and 125 million (monochrome) pixels, without the need for specially developed, and more expensive, ultra-high resolution lens optics.

The CVC Ultra 45MP COL CL colour PCB inspection camera offers users considerable versatility, and a frame rate of 1.43 images per second at full 45 megapixel resolution.  The 5 megapixel sensor can also be used as a standard resolution imager, to quickly locate your field of interest before switching the camera to high resolution mode.  The camera can also be operated in 3CCD mode at 5 megapixel resolution, effectively providing a true RGB output for each pixel and eliminating colour fringing or chromatic aberration.

The monochrome CVC Ultra 125MP BW CL model, meanwhile, delivers an impressive frame rate of 0.516 images per second at the maximum 125 megapixel resolution.  For PCB inspection the camera can also be set to 45 megapixel resolution at 1.43 images per second, or deliver a remarkable 15 images per second at 5 megapixel resolution.

Image data from CVC Ultra model cameras is transferred to PC via the CameraLink Base interface.  In addition, Stemmer Imaging provides sample applications with source code compliant with Teledyne DALSA X64-CL and Xcelera-CL PX4 image capture cards, and can also advise on other frame grabbers to help ease integration and the production of high resolution images for PCB inspection and other manufacturing and scientific applications.
